The heart is with Pitt, but part of the college football recruiting process is exploring options. On Dec. 25, the Panthers received a verbal commitment from Ric’Darious “Day-Day” Farmer, and that pledge has held true. Leading into the summer months, the four-star out of Cocoa High School (Fla.) has three official visits set to scout for other possible next level fits.

Over the 20-offer milestone, Farmer shared Pitt, West Virginia, Marshall, and South Florida are in heavy contact. The bond building is paying off for three of those schools.

“I have upcoming official visits to Pitt, West Virginia, and Marshall,” Farmer said.

The connection with the Mountaineers staff was detailed.

“The relationship has been there since Day 1 when they offered,” Farmer stated. “They were my second or third offer. They have a new offensive scheme; they will be throwing the ball more. I haven’t been up there yet; I want to learn more about the program.”

The long-standing relationship with Marshall offensive coordinator/quarterback coach Clint Trickett has the Thundering Herd on the board.

“Coach Trickett has been recruiting me since the eighth grade,” Farmer shared. “With Marshall, I want to see how everything looks. I want to see if I get that feeling.”

With the Panthers, nothing has dropped off, “Our relationship is really good. It has been great.”

Farmer is even doing his part talking to other recruits.

“Yes, sir,” Farmer said. “I am trying to get other players. The receivers they have put out offers to, I am putting a word in with them.”

During his official with Pitt, Farmer explained what he wants to do, “I want to see new things, I have been up there about five times. I want to see what they are talking about and how everything works.”

The Bulls keeping a running dialogue with Farmer could have dividends. Asked which other teams he might put on the OV list, Farmer replied, “Texas A&M, Penn State, and USF.”

Farmer shared his interest in the three programs.

Texas A&M: “They are an SEC school, and A&M is a good school to go to. They use their receivers a lot.”

Penn State: “Penn State, they are a running team, but outside of football they develop you for the next level; that’s what I like about them.”

South Florida: “USF has a new coaching staff. They will run a Spread offense and will have a pass-first offense. They put everyone to the outside with a lot of room to work.”

Dates for Farmer’s official visits have not been set yet.
