If a player can cut it at Houston’s North Shore High School, there’s a strong bet that said player will make a lot of noise at the collegiate level. A loaded Mustangs’ team romped through the 2023 schedule posting a 15-1 record. As the squad reloads for the fall grind, scouts are checking out 2026 quarterback Kaleb Maryland.

Maryland (6-0, 183) got varsity snaps last season and worked his talents against junior varsity competition. With the big season North Shore turned in at the varsity level, Maryland was asked about what he learned from that experience.

“Some of the things I learned, I transferred in that spring, is what it means to be a team,” Maryland said. “I also learned the pace of everything and how it has to be, and how you have to communicate with one another on the team.”

Executing a run-pass offense, Maryland spoke about his style of play, “As a quarterback, I am a pocket passer, a throw-first guy, but when things breakdown, then I will run it.”

Possessing a big arm, Maryland covered some other strengths to his game, “Breaking down the defense and my accuracy.”

Maryland continued covering what he’s working on this offseason, “My footwork, staying poised, and some tweaks to my mechanics.”

Holding an offer from UNLV, a long list of programs is interest in Maryland.

“SMU, Oregon, Baylor, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Duke, Nebraska, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Oregon State, North Texas, Yale, Florida, Arkansas, UTEP, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Alabama State, U of H (Houston), Temple, and Louisville,” Maryland stated.

This spring, SEC schools Tennessee and South Carolina are set to host Maryland. The three-star prospect shared why he’s excited to make both trips.

Tennessee: “The environment out there. I have been to their camp; the campus is really nice. It seems fun there.”

South Carolina: “The Gamecocks, they also have a really good environment. South Carolina is different from home, I like that. I like how they do things there.”

In addition to playing 7-on-7 ball with Texas Stars, Maryland is planning on spinning it at Elite 11 and Rivals camps this spring.
