National Signing Day is the yin and yang of college football, the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and a little bit Christmas and Halloween all rolled into one. Signing Day is a day of hope and promise for all college football teams, fans, and players alike when high school and junior college recruits put ink to their letters of intent. The day may start with high hopes of a big present or present or two gifted but could also end like a chilling horror film.

The lead up to NSD is rather ho-hum at the top with the usual suspects hoarding all of the five-star and top four-star talent. Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan, and Florida State own the top five spots in 247Sports rankings with LSU, Oklahoma, USC, Auburn, and Texas A&M rounding out the Top 10. Teams like Ohio State, Florida State, LSU, USC, and Auburn have a lot of space left to add top players while staffs like Alabama, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M are right at or already over the typical 25-recruit roster limit.

Be on the watch out for Notre Dame, Clemson, Penn State, UCLA, Washington, Florida, and Nebraska to finish strong capable of challenging a few teams already in the Top 10 rankings by the end of the day on Wednesday, February 1. When the smoke had cleared for the 2016 class a year ago, Alabama once again was tops in the nation followed by Florida State, LSU, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Michigan, Texas, Georgia, Auburn, and USC inching out Clemson and Florida in the Top 10.

The following list is a breakdown of where the Power Five Conference teams stand the day before NSD. Check back on Wednesday and Thursday for the adjusted final rankings.
