TAMPA, Fla. – When No. 1 is on the field for St. John Paul II, opposing Florida defenses are on high alert. Tremaine Hughes Jr. (5-10, 175) was an offensive machine during his junior campaign throwing for 2,186 yards with 23 touchdowns completing 67 percent of his attempts while rushing for 816 yards notching seven more scores on the board in 10 games played. The Tallahassee product has two offers in hand with D-I interest rising.

Campbell and Air Force have offered with interest coming in from Florida State, South Florida, Arkansas, Mississippi State, and UCF.

This spring, Hughes made the trip from Tallahassee to Gainesville to check out the Gators.

“It was really nice,” Hughes said. “They have nice facilities. The new building they just built, the weight room, and the locker room – everything is really nice.”

Heading south to see the Bulls, Hughes was able to connect with USF’s coaches.

“That was very nice as well,” Hughes shared. “I got to talk to some of their coaches. They have a new indoor practice facility; it is nice over there as well.”

The next visit on the schedule will send Hughes packing for Colorado.

“June 8-10, I am going to Air Force,” Hughes stated. “I am looking forward to that.”

Hughes spoke about why he is excited to spend time with the Falcons in Colorado Springs.

“Being able to service my country, I think that is a very cool opportunity,” Hughes said. “Me being from Florida, I don’t get to go out to Colorado a lot; that’s also very nice.”

The summer months will be busy for Hughes with plans to camp at Florida State, Florida A&M, Mercer’s mega camp, and with Kennesaw State.

Off the gridiron, Hughes ran track this spring for the Panthers competing in the 100, 4×1, 4×4, and triple jump.
