No matter how San Jose State’s 2016 recruiting class pans out, Spartan Nation cannot knock how effectively the staff has recruited wide receivers. On Tuesday, San Jose State added their fifth wide receiver recruit landing a verbal from overlooked Adarrus Wilson.

Wilson was a key cog in Morningside High School’s offensive machine in 2015 leading his team with 37 receptions for another team-high 798 yards with 12 touchdowns. Wilson averaged an eye popping 22 yards per reception during his senior season. The 6’3”, 200 pound, athlete also mixed it up in the run game adding seven carries to his workload for another 75 yards with one more score. The Monarchs also used their star player on special teams getting another 297 kick return yards and 271 punt return yards this season totaling 19 touchdowns on the year.

Showing his athleticism, Wilson played safety coming up with 78 stops, three tackles for a loss, forced two fumbles, and had four picks with 155 return yards.

Colleges were slow to pick up on Wilson’s talent. In mid-September, Hawaii added a verbal pledge from the Inglewood area talent but San Jose was able to flip that commitment on Nov. 17.

The Spartans now have 12 verbal commitments to their 2016 recruiting class highlighted by talents like LB Blake Walls, CB Tre Webb, OT Adam Heigis, and receivers JaQuan Blackwell, Mekhi Stevenson, and Wilson.
