What transpired on the field for Centerville High School a year ago, no one saw coming. Then freshman Chase Harrison took the field after an injury to the starting quarterback going on to pass for 1,649 yards with 12 touchdowns earning first team MaxPreps All-American honors. The 6-2.5, 195-pound, sophomore is slinging it even better this season against Ohio foes for an estimated 600 passing yards with six score and one rushing touchdown while completing about 65 percent of his passes in three games. Harrison has offers from Louisville, Pennsylvania, and Toledo with top D-I teams following his progress.

In an RNG catch-up interview, I sat down with one of the top sophomore quarterbacks in Ohio for an update on his season and growing recruiting prospects.

Interview

Chase, you are truly slinging the ball all around the field this season going from one hash mark to the other sideline, downfield, and getting it out on the run. How is the wing looking this season getting the ball out?

“It is feeling good. I trained hard in weight room this offseason. I got the arm strength up and grinded. It feels good coming out of my hand. I am going anywhere I want with the ball. It feels good.”

Your knowledge of the offense is coming through in your play with quick decisions and delivering the ball on busted plays downfield. How are you preparing each week to lead the offense?

“We are taking what the defense gives us. We have a good game plan and I am seeing it against the scout team; nothing special really. I am watching a lot of film, about two to three hours each week to prepare.”

Besides going in the weight room, what did you work on to prepare for your sophomore season over the summer months?

“I worked on getting my speed better, improving my agility, and increasing my arm strength. I worked on sharpening my skills and tool set to get better.”

Where are you seeing the biggest improvements in your overall game?

“My biggest improvement is how relaxed I am on the field. I am seeing everything better, it feels natural. I am playing with the flow of the game.”

Did you showcase the skills at any college camps?

“Yes, sir. I went to Notre Dame, Michigan State, Michigan, Ohio State, Cincinnati, and to a Louisville camp in late July.”

Wow. Of all those camps, which was your best?

“I would say the Notre Dame camp was my best. I was throwing really well and hitting targets left and right. It was a fun day.”

Which parts of your game are you constantly working on during the season?

“I’m working on my footwork; I am keeping that sharp. I am working to keep my skillset consistent and strong. I am always working on technique.”

The team got a big 35-6 win last week against Dunbar, how did the offense look?

“We looked really good. In our first two games, we had slow starts but then picked it up. We put two halves together last week. We have a dangerous offense.”

You guys get Miamisburg (1-2) on Friday, what are you expecting from the Vikings defense?

“We are expecting some pressure and some mixed up coverages. We have to go on the fly and see what they give us. We just have to play our game.”

Closing out with recruiting. Which schools are now showing interest?

“The top schools showing interest are Notre Dame, Michigan State, Michigan, Toledo, Penn, Louisville, and Ohio State.”

When we spoke last you had two offers, how many do you have now?

“I have three offers.”

Have you taken any unofficial visits so far this season?

“Yes. I went to Louisville for their Week 1 game against Notre Dame. That was a lot of fun. I am pretty sure I am going to the USC verses Notre Dame game (Oct. 12). We are keeping the options open on other visits seeing what works best for the team.”

There are some great college football games this weekend, which ones might you watch time permitting?

“I will definitely be watching the Notre Dame/Georgia game. Ian Book and Jake Fromm are two of the top college QBs playing. That will be a fun game to watch.”

Chase, it was great catching up with you today. I appreciate your time and wish you success until we talk again.

“Thank you.”
