Second-string FSU QB John Franklin leaving the Seminoles

When Florida State ended spring practices John Franklin III was listed as the team’s second-string quarterback. On May 19 former Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson announced his decision to transfer to the Seminoles. Now the 6’0”, 180 pound, redshirt sophomore from South Plantation High School is looking for a new team.

Showing his willingness to be a team player, during his redshirt freshman season Franklin appeared in two games at wide receiver. In the 2015 recruiting class head coach Jimbo Fisher piled on in the huddle adding 4-star quarterbacks Deondre Francois (IMG Academy) and De’Andre Johnson (First Coast HS).

The depth chart under center now appears to be 1-2 with redshirt junior Sean Maguire and senior transfer Everett Golson followed by redshirt freshman J.J. Consentino.

In 2013 Franklin had the world on a string as the Seminoles only signal caller in the class. Two years on the sidelines watching Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Jameis Winston work his magic and one spring session later now the luster of being in Tallahassee realizing a senior transfer will more than likely take his spot has to sting a little.

A landing spot for Franklin has not been openly discussed. When Franklin was coming out of Plantation, Florida FSU was his biggest offer. Other schools that extended scholarship offers included Air Force, Bowling Green, Florida International, Georgia State, Navy, Samford, Temple, Western Kentucky, and Tennessee.
