The ever expanding role of the all-purpose back at the college level is becoming more and more prominent and one Class of 2016 recruit is helping lead the way. Coral Cables running back Amir Rasul is a combination of tough running, breakaway speed, and a third down back who can catch the ball out of the backfield. All of his talents were on display Sunday night during the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl helping lead the East squad to a 28-13 win over the West.

Playing against some of the top competition in the nation, Rasul put the East squad on the scoreboard first getting a 3-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The West scored on a Tucker McCann 33-yard field goal and a Theo Howard 17-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter to go up 10-7. Defensive lineman Khalid Kareem answered the call for the East picking up a fumble recovery rumbling 14 yards for a score.

The second half belonged to Rasul seeing the 5’10”, 200 pound, back muscle his way into the end zone on a 2-yard and 9-yard touchdown run for the final scores of the game. Rasul ended the game with 68 yards on 16 carries with three touchdowns.

Before Rasul flashed his talents at the StubHub Center for a national television audience, he was helping the Cavaliers win 19 games over the past two seasons. The talented Florida back had 893 rushing yards off 127 carries with 13 touchdowns as a junior and added 767 yards off 132 totes with 10 scores during the 2015 season. Over the past two seasons Rasul caught 19 passes for 111 yards with two touchdowns.

College coaches see the talent in Rasul as well. Pushing 20 total offers, Rasul was a one-time verbal commitment to Miami but decommitted on July 25, opting for another in-state school, Florida State, two days later. The recruiting process might not be over. Alabama has been hitting the recruiting trail hard lately looking to add another talented back to their haul on National Signing Day. Other official visits scheduled for Rasul coming up includes USC on Jan. 15 and North Carolina on Jan. 29.

After Rasul’s tremendous performance in the Semper Fi Bowl, I caught up with him for a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview to get his thoughts on the all-star game and a recruiting update.
