When Toleafoa “Sean” Auwae verbally committed to UCLA on Aug. 14, the Bruins thought they had one of the best centers in the 2016 recruiting class wrapped up. Right around the time UCLA offered another inciting offer was laid on the table for the Kapolei High School star, an offer from Vanderbilt.

As the 2015 high school football season was playing out for the Hurricanes, college football teams near and far were still trying to lure the 6’3”, 295 pound, talent out of Hawaii and away from UCLA. On Dec. 25, Auwae gave Vanderbilt and their fans a Christmas gift deciding to Anchor Down for college. The commitment was a big win for Vanderbilt landing a 4-star Semper Fidelis All-American talent.

Auwae is pushing 20 scholarship offers from teams across the nation that include Utah, Washington, Arizona State, Louisville, San Diego State, UNLV, BYU, Mississippi State, and Texas Tech along with the home state Rainbow Warriors. During Sunday’s 2016 Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl, Auwae showed out getting to strut his stuff before a national television audience helping Ole Miss running back commit D’Vaughn Pennamon rush for a game-high 123 yards.

Before Auwae inks his letter of intent on National Signing Day, he has official visits set up with Washington State on Jan. 22 and Hawaii on Jan. 29. Recruiting News Guru caught up with Sean after the Semper Fi Bowl to get his thoughts on the game and a recruiting news update.
