SMU Adds Second 2017 QB with Lake Travis 3-Star Charlie Brewer

SMU went back into the Longhorns backyard for another recruit landing three-star pro-style quarterback Charlie Brewer on Friday.
Brewer got a lot of snaps in as a sophomore but started to put it all together during his junior season passing for 3,426 yards with 42 touchdowns against just five interceptions. Even though Brewer is listed as a pro-style, he showed a lot of dual-threat abilities rushing 95 times for 570 yards with nine more scores. For his efforts, Brewer was selected as a 6A second team All-State performer and District 14-5 Offensive MVP.
With Brewer running the show on offense, his Lake Travis squad was one of the best in the state, arguably in the country, racing out to a 15-0 mark before falling to Katy in the UIL State Football Championship. The winning ways brought a lot of attention Brewer’s way with Oregon, Virginia Tech, and Texas showing interest and offers coming in from Hawaii, Southern Miss, North Texas, and Bowling Green.
Brewer made his announcement public via Twitter posting, “Excited to announce that I have committed to SMU!! #Ponyup.”
The Mustangs now have 13 verbal commitments to their 2017 class. Brewer is the second Lake Travis player named Brewer to join. Tight end Cade Brewer verbally committed to SMU on March 20.
