The inevitable happened on Saturday when South Carolina picked up a verbal commitment from in-state offensive lineman Summie Carlay.

The Gamecocks were the first to offer Carlay extending a scholarship proposal on Feb. 14 during a South Carolina Junior Day event. North Carolina State was the next to offer the 6’5”, 280 pound, talent but the path to Columbia already appeared to be set. Carlay attended another USC Junior Day on Saturday verbally committing to the Gamecocks staff then.

The announcement went public on Twitter with Carlay posting, “I’m a Gamecock. #SpursUp #ETD #musCHAMP #Elliot.”

Carlay helped Laurens High School to a 6-6 record in 2015 making a run into the South Carolina playoffs before falling to Northwestern. Carlay plays tackle for the Raiders but depending on how he fills out could move into the interior at the next level.

USC now has five verbal commitments to their 2017 recruiting class.
