Quarterback Jack Grider had a very successful junior campaign in his first season at Dillon High School as the dual-threat playmaker led the Wildcats to a 6-1 record and an appearance in the second round of the playoffs. During the 2020 season Grider completed 62 of 86 passes for 1,119 and nine touchdowns while also rushing for 301 yards and four more scores on 37 carries.

This 6’0”, 185-pound, field general has a strong and accurate arm, great footwork and field vision while also showing tremendous leadership both on and off the field. Not only does Grider play football but he also wrestles and holds a 3.8 GPA in the classroom.

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I caught up with Jack to talk about his junior season and get an update on his recruiting process.

Interview

Jack, how would you grade your individual performance during your junior season?

I’d give myself a B, I didn’t fulfill all my expectations. We didn’t win a state championship and I put that on me because I’m a leader. This was my first year at Dillon, so I did a good job of meeting and gelling with my teammates. I’ll be more comfortable next year.

What would you say was your best game and why?

Hannahan, our first-round playoff game, it was our most complete game as a team. I took what the defense gave me. I threw three touchdowns and my receivers and I were on the same page.

What are your strengths on the football field?

My accuracy, both in the pocket and on the run. I have the ability to run with power depending on what the defense gives me. Over the season, I got better at reading defenses.

How would you describe what kind of player you are?

Definitely a dual-threat. I’m very physical and I love to hit. As a quarterback I understand my role and love to get the ball to our playmakers. I’m also very smart.

Is there an NFL quarterback that you try to model your game after?

Russell Wilson, because he’s a dual-threat, he’s smart, a team player, and he wins.

What is your fastest 40-yard dash time?

4.7.

What kind of offensive scheme does Dillon run?

We run a spread but we have a great ability to run the ball.

How do your skills fit into this offense?

This scheme is great for me, I can make throws to stretch the defense but I can also make plays in the running game. Over the offseason, I’m looking forward to working with all our play-makers.

How would you describe what kind of teammate you are?

I try to be a leader. I love to see everyone having fun because we’re a big family.

What is your favorite thing about playing at Dillon?

We’re a big happy family, we are there for each other. I love the pressure because Dillon has a tradition of winning.

You told me this was your first season at Dillon, how difficult was the transfer from North Carolina?

It was very difficult. At Pine Crest, we just ran the ball. At Dillon, I learned how to read defenses and click with my teammates.

Do you play any other sports in high school?

I also wrestle. It incorporates body movement which helps you become a better athlete.

What is your favorite subject in school?

History, because I find it really interesting.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years, I see myself playing Division I college football at any college. I just want a chance to show my skills.

Who has had the biggest impact on your high school football career?

My dad. He’s the hardest working person I know and he’s always there for me. Without him, I don’t know where I would be. He helps me and my family to be the best.

What is your GPA?

3.8.

Are you receiving interest from any colleges?

Oregon, Florida State, UNLV, Furman, Harvard, Brown, and Dartmouth.

What are your goals for the offseason?

This offseason, I want to get bigger, faster, and stronger and I want to learn the spread more and become a bigger leader on the team. I’m looking forward to working with everyone on the team so we’re all on the same page. I want to work with everyone so we’re all workings towards the goal of a state championship.

Do you have a favorite quote?

“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”

Thank you for your time.

Thank you, sir.
