South Carolina gets Recommitment from 2017 Georgia FS Zay Brown

The twist and turns in South Carolina’s recruitment of safety Zay Brown took a positive swing up for Gamecock Nation when the Georgia talent verbally committed to USC for a second time on Saturday.

Brown played himself onto college recruiting boards during his junior season with Clarke Central. The Athens area talent proved to be a thorn in the side of opposing 5A Georgia teams being an opportunistic player at safety. The 6’0”, 180 pound, playmaker can come up and support against the run, play man against the slot, and come over the top for support deep.

South Carolina recruited against Colorado State, Central Michigan, Georgia State, Charlotte, and Western Kentucky for Brown. USC gained Brown’s commitment in June but within hours Brown had decommitted wanting to wait a little longer before making an official pledge to a Division-I program. When Brown committed on Saturday he posted a statement via Twitter:

The Gamecocks now have 17 verbal commitments to their 2017 class. The grouping is coming together with most of the positions filled on defense except at tackle. The offensive side of the ball has room for another lineman, running back, and a couple wide receivers.
