Southern Miss added their 19th verbal commitment to their 2017 recruiting class on Thursday when Florida dual-threat quarterback Steven Anderson joined the talented haul.

Anderson was an under the radar recruit with Suwannee High School helping the Bulldogs to a 9-3 mark in 2015 and a 6-5 run in 2016 against 5A Florida competition. The stat line for 6-3, 236 pound, quarterback appears to be incomplete with just 707 yards passing off 32 completions with nine touchdowns tossed against one interception. Anderson did lead his squad in rushing yards with 906 off 131 carries with 11 more trips to the end zone.

The Eagles flipped Anderson away from his June 9 commitment to Georgia Southern. Other teams extending offers to the Live Oak area product includes Florida Atlantic, North Carolina Central, and Florida A&M. Anderson posted his announcement on Twitter writing, “Yes I’m official [sic] committed to the university of southern miss.”

Southern Miss went into Florida in June landing the other quarterback committed to the class, Marcelo Rodriguez from Miami’s Columbus High School.

247Sports ranks the Eagles 2017 recruiting class No. 82 in the country, No. 4 overall in Conference USA.
