Friday night a young Booker T. Washington (0-1) team was over-matched against a stacked St. Thomas Aquinas (1-0) team falling 35-3 to the Raiders.

A packed crowd of an estimated 6,500 at Brian Piccolo Stadium and a national TV audience on ESPN watched Aquinas snap Washington’s 41-game win streak dominating on both sides of the ball.

The Raiders used three first half interceptions to build a halftime lead of 21-0, which could have been higher if not for a couple of missed field goal attempts. Aiding in the dominating performance was Devonta’e Henry-Cole’s 118 yards rushing on 25 carries with a first half touchdown run.

Aquinas’ junior quarterback Jake Allen (Florida) was sharp passing for 259 yards with four touchdowns hitting senior wide receiver Sam Bruce (Miami) three times for 63 yards with two scores.

The Tornadoes have won three straight Florida Class 4A state championship titles, and may still be in line for a fourth, but were no match for the defending Class 7A state champs. The Raiders defense confused and badgered senior quarterback Eric Walker and freshman signal caller Daniel Richardson into five total interceptions with Asante Samuel picking up two and Frank Coppet getting the first.

Washington’s lone score was a 39-yard Jose Borregales field goal late in the third quarter.
