Stanford’s 2016 recruiting class has seen more deflections than in recent years but the staff has done a great job of filling gaps almost as immediate as the loss. On Thursday, the Cardinal added two more to the haul landing Texas 3-star cornerback Obi Eboh and bringing back 3-star Hawaii offensive lineman Nate Herbig.

Herbig (6-3, 320) committed to Stanford on June 25 but opened his recruiting back up on Christmas, not a gift wanted for the Cardinal coaching staff. The St. Louis High School (Honolulu) star had double-digit offers getting pitches from Washington, Cal, Arizona State, Hawaii, San Diego State, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt, and Washington State among others. In the end, Herbig took his official to Palo Alto on Jan. 22 recommitting on Jan. 28 after taking a reported official to Cal.

Eboh’s 3-star ranking does not do him justice after the high level of Power 5 Conference teams in pursuit of his services throughout his senior season. The Southlake High School talent had over 30 scholarship offers which kept coming in despite a Sept. 5 commitment to the Texas Longhorns.

An offer came from Stanford on Jan. 9 followed by an official visit on Jan. 15 which brought a decommitment on Jan. 23 from Texas. Eboh was a three-year player for Southlake jumping on the scene as a junior with 56 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and five tackles for a loss. The Dragons went 9-3 in 2015 with Eboh coming up with 31 stops, 16 pass breakups, one fumble recovery, and one tackle for a loss.

Teams offering Eboh included Arkansas, Iowa, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri, Duke, Cal, Arizona State, Washington, Pitt, and Ohio State. He had reported unofficial visits to Texas and Oklahoma but his only official was to Stanford.

The Cardinal now has 21 verbal commitments ahead of National Signing Day on Feb. 3.
