Stanford Secures 4-Star Los Angeles CB David Long

Written by Ryan Wright

Stanford took another big step forward on Thursday towards a 2016 Top 20 recruiting class securing a verbal commitment from 4-star cornerback David Long.

Long has turned into one of the more heavily recruited cornerbacks in the nation out of Loyola High School in Los Angeles. Colleges from all over the nation came calling with scholarship offers after the 6’0”, 175 pound, star recruit pulled down 25 passes for 414 yards with three touchdowns and proved to be a top shut down corner on defense.

The schools to offer Long include Miami, Washington, Duke, Oklahoma, Oregon, Cal, Arizona, USC, UCLA, Michigan, Vanderbilt, Nebraska, Arizona State, Boston College, and Utah among others.

Stanford has been a frontrunner for Long for an extended period of time thanks in part to Coach Duane Akina and former Cardinal Richard Sherman. Per reports Sherman talked to Long about playing in Palo Alto selling him on what it means to play for Stanford. The other reported teams in the running for Long’s commitment were Washington, USC, and UCLA.

Loyola’s secondary arguably could be one of the best in the nation at the high school level. In addition to Long, the Cubs have 3-star corner Myles Bryant and 2-star safety Jordan Riordan looking to pick off opposing California high school quarterbacks.

The Cardinal now has 13 verbal commitments to their 2016 recruiting class.
