The match-up of two of the top teams in the state of Mississippi pitting two of the top rated recruits in the nation became a one-sided affair with Starkville (1-1) downing Oxford (1-1) 20-7 Friday night.

The Little Egg Bowl was set to be a showcase of two of the top wide receivers in the nation, Oxford’s D.K. Metcalf, an Ole Miss verbal commitment, and A.J. Brown, an undeclared 4-star recruit for the Yellowjackets. In the end Brown outshined Metcalf pulling down 16 passes for 192 yards. Brown (6’2”, 218) even kept the game from getting close in the fourth quarter knocking Oxford wide receiver Ken Presley out of bounds at the 1-yard line on a fourth down play.

Metcalf was stymied most of the night finishing the first half with two receptions for minus 4-yards. In the fourth quarter the 6’3”, 210 pound, receiver caught two passes on the same drive but was otherwise kept under wraps all night long.

Starkville ended the night with 437 yards of total offense with Oxford coming up with 243. Avery Brown was another highlight for Starkville rushing 30 times for 118 yards with one touchdown.
