The Horned Frogs got their first verbal commitment out of Florida on Thursday when three-star defensive tackle George Ellis pledged to TCU.

TCU jumped Ellis after the 6-2, 290 pound, tackle helped the Patriots to a 14-0 record in 2016 claiming a 5A state title in a 35-33 win over Ponte Vedra. Ellis was a leader on defense coming up with 75 tackles stopping 29 plays by himself. The Fort Lauderdale area talent was a constant disruption in the opposition’s backfield coming up with at least 14 tackles for a loss and 5.5 sacks during his senior season.

The Horned Frogs nabbed Ellis ahead of planned official visits to Rutgers (Jan. 20) and South Florida (Jan. 27). Other teams to offer Ellis includes Mississippi State, Cincinnati, Southern Miss, Central Florida, Illinois, N.C. State, Vanderbilt, and Wisconsin. Ellis posted a statement on Twitter late Thursday night:

247Sports ranks TCU’s 2017 recruiting class at No. 45 in the nation, No. 5 in the Big 12. With 12 verbal commitments, Rivals ranks the same class at No. 55 with four four-star recruits and eight three-star players.
