All is well that ends well for the LSU, Texas, and senior kicker Trent Domingue with the announcement on Saturday that the pre-season Lou Groza Award watch list member had successfully transferred from the Tigers to the Longhorns.

On July 13, Domingue, a Louisiana native from Mandeville, posted a melancholy announcement on Twitter that he would not return for his senior year.

Much of college football and LSU fans alike, were displeased with the treatment Domingue received from Tigers head coach Les Miles. Domingue was considered one of the top kickers during the 2015 season connecting on 13 of 17 field goal attempts with three kicks missed against Texas A&M in the regulars season finale, misses that did not affect the outcome of the game with LSU winning 19-7. The then- redshirt junior also hit 49 of 50 point after attempts becoming a Lou Groza Award semifinalist.

Miles found Domingue expandable after signing kicker Connor Culp out of Arizona as part of the 2016 recruiting class. With Culp on campus, Miles opted to not award Domingue with another scholarship telling the Baton Rouge – Advocate, “He never came here with a promise of grant-in-aid. He walked on. He competed, did what he was supposed to do and he earned a grant. I told him, ‘If we’re in a position where we have a grant, it’s going to be yours.’ He just didn’t want to give me time to do that.”

The question for Miles, how much time was needed? LSU ended their 2015 season on Dec. 29 in the AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl beating Texas Tech 56-27. Six months-plus to find a scholarship for Domingue is not enough time?

Texas welcomes Domingue with open arms needing an experienced kicker to replace graduated Nick Rose. The Longhorns did not have a clear-cut starter in the mix seeing Domingue as a potential saving grace to their special teams needs in 2016.
