Sometimes players in certain areas get taken for granted by local college football teams with the thought that they need to go elsewhere to find a fit in their scheme. Out of Iowa’s (Waukee) Northwest High School just outside of Des Moines, Chase Lamb (6-3, 220) is one of those guys. The 2024 linebacker has twice been named 5A All-State and first team All-District but is flying under the radar along the recruiting trail. After displaying the athleticism and talents in Georgia at the Southern Exposure Camp over the weekend, Lamb is poised to get scouts’ attention this fall.

Playing middle linebacker, and some outside backer, Lamb spoke about the Wolves defense.

“We run a 4-2-5, the same defense as the University of Iowa,” Lamb stated.

Getting ready for his senior season, Lamb has been working on his skills.

“I’ve mostly been working on my footwork, getting bigger and faster, and working in the weight room,” Lamb shared.

June 16-19, Lamb took his show on the road competing at a North Dakota State camp.

“It went pretty well,” Lamb said. “I learned a lot, and I got to compete with a bunch of different talent. I got to play some defensive end at that camp, which I haven’t done before.”

The culmination of offseason work was displayed in Georgia on Saturday.

“That camp went very well,” Lamb shared. “I got to compete with a lot of competition in the south, where I am from. It was good to see some familiar faces.”

Lamb continued, “We started out with athletic testing, running the 40, a shuttle run, and the three-cone,” Lamb stated. “After individual drills, we went into one-on-ones, against the pass and run one-on-ones; I did well in both covering and being physical.”

On the recruiting trail, Lamb holds an offer from Grand View with interest streaming in from North Dakota State, Kansas State, South Dakota State, and Northern Iowa. Four teams welcomed Lamb to campus over the spring and summer months.

“I went to North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, and I got out to Indiana State too,” Lamb stated.

The rapport with the Bison led by head coach Matt Entz was covered.

“It is pretty good,” Lamb said. “I started talking to them last fall. I got out to a game, a Junior Day, and the camp. It was pretty cool to see how they operate and to build more of a relationship with the coaching staff.”

A bond is being built with the coaches at Northern Iowa as well.

“I went to their Junior Day and to their spring game,” Lamb shared. “I talk to their coaches frequently, once every week or two weeks.”

Up in Brookings, the Jackrabbits are keeping tabs on Lamb entering the season as well.

“I went to one of their games last fall and I got out to their Junior Day,” Lamb stated. “I talked to their coaches to see what their program is like. I was supposed to go to one of their camps, but I banged up my shoulder at the North Dakota State camp.”

The Wolves begin their 2023 schedule against 5A competition on Aug. 25 taking on Johnston.
