One of the rising sophomore stars in Missouri’s 2021 recruiting class a year ago was Kaden McMullen. The 6-4, 190-pound, gunslinger took to the 3A fields hitting 136 of 225 passes for 2,206 yards with 23 touchdowns in 10 games earning All-Conference honors. McMullen is off spinning the ball around the yard again throwing for 681 yards with three touchdowns in four games in Living Word Christian High School’s (O’Fallon) 2-2 start to the season.

In an RNG catch-up interview, I got a couple of minutes with McMullen ahead of the Eagles showdown against Bishop DuBourg/Hancock for a game preview and an update on his season.

Interview

Kaden, I know you put a lot of hard work into your game over the summer. Where are you seeing the biggest improvements in your game this season?

“The improvements in my game are me being more mobile, with better speed, and strength. I am extending plays and leading my guys. We have not started the way we wanted but I think we will pick it up.”

How are you preparing for each game this season?

“I am preparing by watching film. Every Saturday we have a film session from 11-to-1. I am also watching extra film on my own; pretty much every day except Sunday.”

Which game has been your personal best so far?

“My best game this season was our Week 2 game against Vashon/Northwest Academy (won 48-20). I was extending plays and making good decisions, even though I did not play the whole game because we were up by a lot. That was my best game overall.”

After winning the first two games, the team has lost the last two. How are you leading the team through the adversity keeping everyone point with a lot of games left to play?

“We are taking it one game at a time. Our focus is to prepare for each week as if we were 0-0. That way, if we win, we are not too high up and if we lose, we are not down too far. We have to take it one game at a time.”

The Eagles host Bishop DuBourg/Hancock (2-2) on Friday. As the quarterback, what are you looking at against their defense?

“They have good skill players and they play man. I will have to make good decisions and get the ball out quickly so I can lead my team to a victory.”

Getting a quick update on recruiting from you. Where is everything in the interest department?

“Kansas, Kansas State, and Michigan State are showing interest.”

Are there any visiting coming up?

“Yes. I am going to Kansas on Oct. 5. I am also trying to go to Kansas State and Michigan State this season, but I do not know when.”

What has you excited about the Kansas trip?

“The atmosphere and I want to see how they play in person. Atmosphere is big for me. The atmosphere that a home crowd brings gets you up. I am excited to see the atmosphere there.”

Kaden, it was great catching up with you today. Good luck through the second half of the season.

“Thank you.”
