LILBURN, Ga. – Ranked as a five-star for all the right reasons, put Mike Matthews anywhere on the field at a skill position and watch him ball out. The Parkview High School (Lilburn) talent ripped Georgia 7A defenses for 1,030 receiving yards with nine touchdowns and put an end to 20 plays with a pick last season. Over 30 offers have been extended to Matthews with four official visits set.

The end goal for Matthews with the Panthers is bringing home a trophy.

“Really, my main goal is to get a state championship with my brothers,” Matthews stated. “It has been a long ride; I’ve been with these boys since my freshman year. I just hope to go out with a bang.”

The personal goal for Matthews is to walk off the field when the clock reaches triple-zero being perfect for each game.

“My goal is to not drop any balls,” Matthews said. “No matter what it is, I do not want to drop any passes, and I want to be a leader for my team.”

To make his goals a reality, Matthews wants to add 10 pounds to his frame entering the 2023 season at 195 and he wants to add an extra gear to his already blazing speed.

“I want to improve my size; I want to get bigger and faster,” Matthews shared. “Overall, I just want to become a better athlete. I want to do the little things that will prevent injuries. It is a process, but I am willing to work.”

Off the field, four teams have locked in official visits with Matthews.

“I’m starting to cut down to my official visits,” Matthews said. “I’ve set Clemson, Tennessee, Georgia, and USC.”

Among the four programs, each is on the same level for now.

“They are all good communities,” Matthews stated. “I like the players and coaches there, and I like what they are doing at all of those schools.”

Matthews begins his paid for visit tour with Clemson on June 2 followed by Georgia on June 9, USC on June 16, and Tennessee on June 23.
