USC Trojans Secure Second 4-Star Bishop Amat WR, Land Tyler Vaughns

Written by Ryan Wright

During a ceremony from Bishop Amat High School in La Puente, California, 4-star wide receiver Tyler Vaughns verbally committed to USC on Wednesday. The announcement was of little surprise considering Vaughns has been a regular on the USC campus during his recruiting process and La Puente is roughly 20 minutes (east) away from the Trojans’ facilities.

Interest in Vaughns skyrocketed after a junior season that ended with 83 receptions, for 1,183 yards, and 12 touchdowns. The Lancers posted a 9-4 record with fellow 4-star wide receiver Trevon Sidney manning the other side of the field, also a USC commit. Sidney committed on July 11.

With offers in the neighborhood of 20, some of the top programs in the nation have attempted to woo Vaughns away from southern California. Tennessee, Kansas State, Notre Dame, Utah, Washington, Washington State, Arizona State, Illinois, and Nebraska were among the many. The perceived top schools vying for his attention during the recruiting process was Georgia, Oklahoma, Alabama, and USC.

USC now has 16 verbal commitments to their 2016 recruiting class. The good news is the Trojans without a doubt have the top rated wide receivers haul in the nation. The potential bad news is five have verbally committed. USC runs a spread offense under head coach Steve Sarkisian so the opportunities to have four receivers on the field at one time are highly plausible.

The Trojans signed just two receivers in the 2015 class, De’Quan Hampton (Long Beach C.C.) and Isaac Whitney (Riverside C.C.).
