After official visits to Nebraska, Utah, and Arizona State, Fresno area 2017 cornerback Jaylon Johnson found his fit committing to the Utes less than a week after visiting the Sun Devils.

Johnson, a four-star recruit and U.S. Army All-American Bowl invitee, is a two-way standout for Central High School. During his junior season he was among the team leaders in receptions (14) and yards (219) while posting one score. Where he shinned was at corner.

The Grizzlies are off to a fantastic 8-1 start to the 2016 season with their 6-0.5, 181 pound, athlete showcasing his skills on both sides of the ball. Through nine games played, Johnson has 23 receptions for 342 yards with three scores. He has 20 total tackles, 15 solo, along with 3.5 tackles for a loss, three passes broken up, and two interceptions.

Utah fought off other offers from Oklahoma, Florida, USC, Colorado, Colorado State, Georgia, Oregon, Fresno State, Tennessee, and Michigan. Johnson posted his commitment on Twitter with a post reading, “All glory to God. I thank my family, my friends, and my supporters for always being there for me. I am verbally committed to Utah.”

Utah’s efforts on the recruiting trail had been quite for months. The trail has gotten hot in October with commitments from Tyquez Hampton, Jaylen Dixon, and Johnson. The last recruit to commit was Jason Shelley on July 31.

The Utes’ 2017 recruiting class is ranked No. 90 in the nation by Rivals and No. 92 by 247Sports, No. 12 overall in the Pac-12.
