Utah gets back on 2017 Recruiting Board with Texas WR Tyquez Hampton

Utah fans wanting to be excited about their 2017 recruiting class have been put on hold since July 31 waiting for the next future playmaker to be added proceeding Jason Shelley. Their patience was rewarded on Tuesday with a commitment from Texas wide receiver Tyquez Hampton.

Hampton has done a little bit of everything for El Dorado High School maximizing his speed and abilities against 6A competition. During his junior season, he helped the Aztecs to a 7-4 record hauling in 25 passes for 562 yards with six scores. El Dorado also handed the ball off to him five times for 53 yards on the ground with another touchdown. Hampton flashed his speed in the open field on special teams taking four kick returns back 131 yards with a long of 64 and fielded one punt for an eight-yard gain.

The Aztecs are once again using Hampton all over the field giving him seven carries resulting in 63 yards. In the air attack, Hampton has team-highs with 38 receptions, 564 yards receiving, and seven touchdowns.

Utah picking up Hampton’s commitment was a Pac-12 battle flipping the 6-2, 210 pound, target away from Washington State. The Cougars picked up Hampton’s commitment on June 10. Utah hosted Hampton at the end of September. Other teams to offer the Lone Star State product includes West Virginia, SMU, UTSA, Tulsa, Navy, UTEP, North Texas, Hawaii, Air Force, Kansas, Louisiana-Monroe, and Mississippi State.

Beyond the athletic abilities Hampton will bring with him, he is planning to be an early enrollee.

Utes fans found out about Hampton’s commitment on Twitter with a statement explaining his change of heart:

Utah now has six verbal commitments to their 2017 recruiting class. Four of the six players pledged are from Texas.
