Nothing beats experience and preparation, and those two pieces of the puzzle has Jack Spaeder ahead of his peer group in the 2027 class. Whipping the ball around the yard for Avant Garde (Hollywood, Fla.) a year ago, the 6-2, 168-pound, gunslinger will pick up the action with American High School (Hialeah) this fall. Spaeder will take the field with enthusiastic college eyes watching.

The Sharks saw Spaeder spread the ball around the gridiron in 2022 completing 41 passes for 611 yards with eight touchdowns while rushing for 65. That time on the field helped inform Spaeder aiding his offseason workouts.

“Getting that experience, I know the atmosphere, what it will be like these next four years, what I have to do, and how I have to compete,” Spaeder stated.

With the Patriots, Spaeder will have a chance to showcase the developing skills.

“We run an Air Raid offense,” Spaeder said. “We do a lot of passing, but we still have some running in it.”

The routes Spaeder likes to connect on was shared, “My favorites are posts and comebacks, and the go-ball.”

Outside of high school workouts, Spaeder has been a fixture on the 7-on-7 circuit with Florida Fire. The extra reps have been great opportunities to fine-tune the skills.

“I have been working on my footwork a lot, trying to get stronger, and just getting ready for varsity football,” Spaeder stated.

The time spent is paying off.

“My reads and my speed have improved, and I have gotten a lot faster,” Spaeder said. “I have been making better reads in the pocket and I have been more patient in the pocket. I’m not scared to hang in the pocket going through my reads.”

Taking in extra instruction this summer, Spaeder made the rounds in the Sunshine State camping at Miami, UCF, South Florida, and Florida State.

“My best camp was probably at “The U” (Miami),” Spaeder shared. “I went to 7-on-7 camps with my American High School team to Coastal Carolina, Duke, and South Carolina. During the individual and one-on-ones, my best was probably at The U. I threw some great balls and talked to coach (Shannon) Dawson (OC/QB) after the camp.”

Spaeder continued giving insight into the conversation with coach Dawson, “He was asking questions about where I am from, my height, he said he will be watching me this year, and to keep up the good work. We won the Coastal Carolina camp; I had some great talks with coach (Travis) Trickett (OC/QB).”

In the three college-held team 7-on-7 tournaments, Spaeder posted an 18-2 record earning a championship trophy at Coastal. There’s another big opportunity coming up for Spaeder to impress D-I coaches.

“I am going to a Penn State camp in two weeks,” Spaeder stated.

The Nittany Lions have a special place in Spaeder’s heart.

“I was born in Pennsylvania, Penn State was my favorite college when I was a kid, especially football,” Spaeder shared. “I watched their games all the time, and still do. I can’t wait to go up there and compete.”

Bethune-Cookman has laid down an early offer for Spaeder with teams showing interest after his camp performances. Once the 2023 season gets going, Hurricane fans can expect to see Spaeder at Hard Rock Stadium for at least one game this fall. To date, Miami’s staff has had the most interaction with Spaeder.
