Around the gridiron, the term athlete can get tossed around loosely. Some guys are athletic enough to play both ways, or a needed body on offense and defense, but maybe don’t make that impact. For Sarasota’s (Fla.) Cardinal Mooney, Griffin Gisotti (6-0, 185) was that playmaker in all three phases of the game. All that talent will be suiting up for Florida powerhouse Venice High School this fall with a fresh wave of college teams watching.

The productivity and honors provide a snapshot of what the 2024 prospect can do on the field. With the Cougars, Gisotti tallied 1,340 all-purpose yards punching the ball into the end zone 13 times. The verified 4.46 speed in the 40 helped produce two picks and was used on offense as a Wildcat QB after working the first four games of the season at receiver. At the end of the 2022 campaign, Gisotti had earned Florida All-State Utility Player of the Year second team honors, Sarasota All-Area Athlete, and Cardinal Mooney Athlete of the Year.

Work on the overall game this spring for Gisotti was with Cardinal Mooney.

“My spring ball, I think it went really well,” Gisotti said. “I had really good weeks of practice, I got better. In my spring game, I played only half of a quarter, the first two drives, I had four receptions for 55 yards and a touchdown. My spring went really well.”

Preparing for his senior season, Gisotti shared the focus of his workouts.

“I’ve been really working on my route running; I am trying to improve that,” Gisotti stated. “I want to be very crisp, get my routes down, and get in and out of my cuts faster. This offseason I am also working on getting my speed up along with my agility. I am more of a slot and hybrid running back; I am working on route running a lot.”

This week, the transfer to Venice High School was announced.

“I think I will work in with the receivers; I am guessing I will be playing slot receiver, and on kick and punt returns,” Gisotti said. “Last season I played everywhere; I played some at safety. At Venice, I can see myself helping out the offense in various ways. I can do more than just play receiver. They can use me out of the backfield on jet sweeps and in the screen game. I did that at Cardinal Mooney, I can help Venice out with that this year.”

The skills on the field have brought a next level opportunity Gisotti’s way.

“I got my first offer about two weeks ago from Stetson University,” Gisotti shared. “I have been talking to mid-majors and FCS schools. Three months ago, I didn’t have any looks. It is really starting to ramp up for me; I am really excited about that.”

The growing interest got Gisotti on college campuses this spring.

“I went to Bowling Green, we met up with their coaches and toured the campus,” Gisotti said. “It was really nice. I saw Vanderbilt’s spring game as well.”

Gisotti continued talking about his time with the Falcons.

“That went really well,” Gisotti stated. “I went with a couple of guys; their coach, Brian White (RB), I could tell he was very interested. Coach White pulled me aside, told me that I am a big-time player. I think that Bowling Green connection will go really well.”

The time in Nashville was covered.

“That went really well,” Gisotti shared. “They are in the SEC; they are big-time ball. It was fun to be there. Vanderbilt has a really good environment.”

The incoming interest is leading to a summer college camp circuit.

Holy Cross, I will camp with them on June 23,” Gisotti said. “I took a visit over there this winter; they showed a lot of interest. Boston College is showing interest, UMass, their coach came to our school, we talked for a while, Colgate, Bowling Green, their coach likes me; I think I will camp with them this summer.”

Gisotti’s college camp schedule: Bowling Green June 12, Florida Atlantic June 20, Holy Cross June 23, Dartmouth June 25, Colgate July 15, and Appalachian State on July 26.
