If you are a little late to the party, the southern California area is loaded with skill position talent on both sides of the ball. There are several phenomenal athletes in the region who could play on either side of the ball at the next level, and Rancho Cucamonga High School’s three-way star Jaylon Redd is one of the best of the best.

Redd displayed his skill sets helping guide the Cougars to a 9-4 record and a semifinals run into the California High School Playoffs before an amazing 62-56 overtime thriller loss to Vista Murrieta, another team loaded with Class of 2017 talent. Splitting carries with Class of 2016 lead running back Aaron Manning, Redd rushed for 671 yards off 99 touches with nine scores and hauled in 20 passes for 232 more yards with three more scores. On special teams, Redd added 376 yards on kick returns and 99 on punt returns.

The 5’9”, 185 pound, athlete made his presence felt on defense at corner coming up with 63 total stops, 33 solo, one tackle for a loss, at least four passes defended , and three picks covering another 52 yards in returns.

Redd has double-digit offers with teams like Michigan, Arizona State, Oklahoma, Washington, Utah, USC, UCLA, Boise State, Washington State, Colorado, and Cal all pushing for a verbal commitment. The next round of offers that could drop are from programs like Notre Dame, Oregon, and Oregon State.

Where Redd may play at the next level is still up in the air. Boise State and Cal both like him as a running back, UCLA likes him as a corner and slot, while Washington sees him as a running back or a corner.

In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I caught up with Redd at the Nike Opening Los Angeles regional getting an update on his offseason camp and 7×7 schedule and received a recruiting news update.
