Most college football teams build their recruiting class around the quarterback position. As of Wednesday, the Demon Deacons found their cornerstone piece to the 2017 class when Pennsylvania 2017 dual-threat quarterback Tayvon Bowers verbally committed.

Bowers (6-1, 215) was part of a 14-1 Bishop McDevitt team in 2014 picking up valuable experience in spots for the Crusaders. The controls to the Crusaders’ offense was completely handed over to Bowers in 2015 with the playmaker taking his team to the semifinal round of the playoffs running up a 14-2 record. Along the way, Bowers passed for 3,576 yards with 42 touchdowns against 13 picks. He also rushed for 395 yards with three scores helping move the chains within the offense.

Wake Forest got the somewhat surprising commitment after Bowers had taken numerous unofficial visits to Rutgers. Other teams to offer the Harrisburg area native includes Dartmouth, Akron, Old Dominion, Kent State, and Buffalo.

Bowers posted his decision on Twitter stating, “Wake Forest Here I Come! #RIPDaddy This One’s [sic] for you.” Bowers also added a statement reading, “I want to thank all the coaches that recruited me and to those who believed in me, and I’m extremely blessed to announce that I’ll be committing to Wake Forest University! #ACC #WakeUp17 #GoDeacs.”

Wake Forest now has six verbal commitments to their 2017 class. All six commitments are from different states highlighted by tight end Braden Atkinson.
