Washington Class of 2016 DE Evan Weaver Announces Top 6 and Commitment Date

Written by Ryan Wright

The difference from August 2014 to August 2015 is a 180 degree turn in the right direction for Gonzaga Preparatory defensive end Evan Weaver. Last year Weaver was preparing to make his mark on the field for the Bullpups and what an incredible mark he made helping lead his team to a 10-2 record that included a two-game run into the Washington high school state playoffs before falling to Chiawana.

Along the way Weaver imposed his will on the competition coming up with 123 tackles that included 37 tackles for a loss. The 6’3”, 240 pound, athlete even lined up at running back some, and will do so again this season. For his efforts he was named first-team All-State by the AP, Seattle Times, and Tacoma News earning Inland Northwest’s Defensive MVP of the Year honors.

Offers started rolling in and Weaver helped his cause by hitting up several one-day college and offseason exposure camps over the summer. In all, the Spokane area native has 12 reported offers coming from Washington, Arizona, Boise State, Washington State, Utah, Cal, Army, Colorado State, Idaho, Montana, UNLV, and Wyoming.

He also has an impressive list of schools that have showed different levels of interest. Those schools include USC, Oregon, Alabama, Missouri, Arizona State, Notre Dame, Purdue, Northwestern, and Colorado. Weaver has been all over the west coast region on unofficial visits hitting up Washington State, Boise State, Cal, Oregon, USC, Arizona, UCLA, and Washington.

On Friday Weaver posted his Top 6 naming Arizona, Boise State, Cal, Utah, Washington, and Washington State as the schools he will choose from before verbally committing. He also announced his decision date of August 18.

In a quick interview exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview with Evan I was able to confirm a few details about his upcoming commitment. The first thing that came through loud and clear, when he verbally commits the lead up to that moment will not be filled with idle chatter about one school or the other.

The other confirmation is a round about time, somewhere around noon, maybe. The announcement is not going to be a big media fanfare but a quick post on Twitter so he can close the book on recruiting and focus on a great senior season.

In a previous interview with Evan, when asked about the factors that would influence him most on which school will get his signed LOI on National Signing Day he stated, “Academics, playing time, and a winning program.”

Gonzaga Prep opens their season on Friday, Sept. 4 on the road against Richland High School.
