Interview

Ryan, how did the game against San Juan Hills go for the Lancers overall?

“Statistically, it was a good game. I threw for 300 and three touchdowns and we had 100 rushing yards with another touchdown. The points did not show with the final score. We wanted more points on the board, but it is hard enough to win football games. We are looking ahead now at Centennial for this week.”

What worked well for you as a quarterback against the Stallions?

“When you play a team like them, they are fundamentally sound, so you have to use your go to guys. Kyle (Ford) won some 2-on-1 battles and Logan (Loya) made some great catches. We made some sideline and halftime adjustments. We were getting into the flow of the game after the first couple of drives based on their defense.”

Was there anything that surprised you against San Jan Hills?

“Yeah. Going into it, we were ranked No. 6 in the nation by MaxPreps (No. 3 in California), you think you might get an easy win, but they made us work for it. Every play you had to dial something up to get something going.”

What kind of defensive front did the Stallions play against you on passing downs?

“The used a 30-front. They walked up their backers, sometimes they’d rush or drop back. If I gave a run fake or went straight pass they would react. They were random at times; sometimes they were in a 50 rush and sometimes they were in a 30-front.”

What were your stats for the game?

“I was 29 of 48 for 297 with three touchdowns.”

On the OLU offensive side of the ball, other than you, what player stood out in Week 1?

“Kyle Ford had a tremendous game, he will every game. Our running backs did a great job; Travis Laguisan, Cooper Vander Hill, and Thomas Huff had big games.

You guys have another big challenge this week facing No. 11 nationally ranked Centennial, No. 5 in California, what are you expecting from the Huskies defense?

“They changed a lot about their defense. Two years ago, they were a zone team. Last year they changed to a pressure defense with a six or seven-man pressure front across the board. They have a “we will rush you” philosophy. They know their offense can score quick. This is a good week for us match up wise across the board.”

Is there anything you or the team needs to do or tweak before facing Centennial on Friday?

“They are one of the better teams we will face this year. They have a great defensive front with guys like Drake Jackson (4-star DE). Our offensive line will have to hold up against their pressure. If the offensive line holds, we will be alright. We have had great practices the last two days. We have to keep up our intensity.”

Ryan, thanks for your time today and good luck against Centennial.

“Thank you.”
