Interview

Sam, after getting a chance to watch the Oaks Christian game film, what were some of the things you were pleased with of your personal performance?

“My route running and my ability to get open – that is big for me. Going against Oaks Christian was good for us. Going against big defensive linemen and linebackers like that, that will help us and me later this season.”

What were some of the things you saw that you felt needed to be tweaked this week in practice?

“Definitely reading holes. In the game, as it went along, I was getting better reading the holes. But, I need to step that up.”

The Crusaders get another tough showdown this week taking on No. 6 Central Catholic (0-1) on Saturday. What kind of front do the Rams run?

“They mostly run a 3-front. Our offense is good against that defensive formation. We should do well against them.”

What are you personally expecting from the Rams defense on Saturday? How do you think they will try to attack your game?

“From what we have seen on film, I am looking at Cover-2 and man. As a running back, I will be more dominating in the game than at receiver. I will get most of my yards at running back, hopefully some touchdowns as well. We have a lot of very talented receivers. For them trying to cover all of us, that will be trouble for them.”

With college coaches able to contact 2020 players as of Sept. 1, what is new on the recruiting trail for you?

“There were a lot of coaches that reached out. UDUB (Washington) and LSU – that is a new one for me, and some of the schools that have offered me – Cal, Washington State, Texas A&M, and Colorado.”

With the coaches reaching out, was there any planned unofficial visits set?

“No. Not at this time.”

Let’s break from football and recruiting to talk college football. Did you get to watch any college football games over the weekend?

“Not really. The games I wanted to watch, UDUB and ASU, were during our game.”

Tough question. Putting you on the spot. Which four teams do you have in the College Football Playoff after Week 1 of the season?

(Laughs) “Oh… Bama, I want UDUB to be in there, Wisconsin – they are looking good, and Clemson.”

I like it. Sam, as always, thanks for your time today and good luck with Central Catholic on Saturday.

“Thank you.”
