It is that time of year, there is a Hurricane warning going out across the state of Florida. Behind 2025 quarterback Andrew Heidel, Manatee High School is storming through the season. The poise, talent, and production in the pocket is bringing interest Heidel’s way with a Big 12 visit coming.

A foundational season was set a year ago for Heidel with Manatee, and his junior campaign is pushing his projection into D-I territory. Through five games, Heidel has already thrown for 1,025 yards with 10 passing touchdowns and two rushing scores.

After an exciting down to the last-minute contest against Port Chalotte, Heidel updated the season, “Our season has been going great. We are 5-0 now. We have high spirits, and everyone is working hard; we are doing our thing.”

Heidel continued, “I’m showing much improvement. We put in a lot of work in the offseason, I’m putting more trust in my offensive line and more trust in my receivers; it is going great.”

Along the recruiting trail, interest is building in Heidel’s talents.

West Virginia, Toledo is showing a little bit of interest, Columbia, North Dakota State, and Dartmouth,” Heidel stated.

A Nov. 4 trip to Morgantown has been set.

“I am going to West Virginia for the BYU game,” Heidel shared.

On the prospects of seeing the Mountaineers live, Heidel replied, “I’m absolutely excited; so excited. This will be my first game, my first invite game.”

The Mountaineers’ staff being able to see the 2025 prospect in person over the summer has helped build the connection.

“I went to a camp there this summer, I have been in contact with them ever since,” Heidel said. “Coach (Jacquez) Green (Manatee) also has contacts there; it has been going great.”

A trip to New York to see the Lions is a possibility.

“Columbia invited me for a visit, I have to see if I can go there,” Heidel stated.

Manatee has racked up the wins downing Lake Minneola, Sarasota, Charlotte, Braden River, and now Port Charlotte. The Hurricanes take the field again on Sept. 29 with a road game against Lakewood Ranch.
