The skillset for Class of 2022 offensive tackle keeps improving, right along with his size and strength. The four-star recruit is a mauler for Maumelle High School catching the scouting eye of college programs across the country. On passing downs, with Chamblee’s quick feet and massive wingspan off his 6-8, 290-pound, frame, even the small quick ends have no chance. When the Hornets want to run, Chamblee is on the line serving up pancakes and knockdowns against 5A Arkansas defenders. Beyond his size, Chamblee wants to be that dominating player on the gridiron taking to the weight room with determination and works additionally on his footwork playing basketball for Maumelle.

For an update on his season, offseason workouts, and potential visits in 2021, Chamblee accepted another invitation to the RNG Lab.

Interview

Andrew, let’s catch up on your junior year. How did the 2020 season go for you?

It went well. We made it to the second round of the playoffs, we made it further than last year. We will keep on growing and get better.

What offensive set were you guys executing this season?

We did an RPO (run-pass option). We mostly ran a set called Ace with a single running back with two tight ends and two receivers.

Throughout the season, how did you improve upon your run blocking?

It definitely improved. I improved my footwork, my feet chopping, my power, my stance and coming out more explosive.

What about with your pass blocking? How did that part of your game improve?

No one got by me this year. My hands were always high, I had a strong base, and I was staying on my feet and not leaning.

Was there adversity you faced on the field this season that made you better because of the challenge?

We played Little Rock Christian; their best defender was running his mouth. We were going at it all night. He got me a few times, but I got him overall. He’s a good guy, we made each other better.

Which game did you turn in your best personal performance?

The Little Rock Christian game.

What did you do well in that one to make it your best?

I got a lot of pancakes and played really aggressive that night. I played the best football that I could.

Since the offseason began, what have you been doing to increase your overall strength? What kind of workouts have you been doing?

I’ve been flipping tires and getting extra work in the weight room. This offseason I am trying to get 10 more pounds on me to get to 300. I have also been working on the little mechanics and my mobility. I have also been working on my base.

With the extra time in the weight room, have you maxed out on any lifts?

Only deadlift. I got 565.

Nice. I know you also play basketball. How is the basketball season going?

Really good. We are 9-2 with another game tomorrow. We are pushing for 10-2 getting ready for conference.

Are you taking on any other varsity sports this year?

I might throw shot and discus, but I am still thinking on it.

Let’s close talking recruiting. Which programs are showing interest but have not offered yet?

LSU has showed a little, Alabama is showing some, and so is Northwestern.

How high is the offer total now?

I have 14 offers.

Which program was the last to offer you?

Virginia was the latest.

Chamblee’s Offer Sheet: Arkansas, Auburn, Colorado, Kansas, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Southern Miss, TCU, Tennessee, Virginia, and Virginia Tech

When visits start again later this year, which schools would you like to go see?

I want to go see Arizona State, Ohio State, and I wouldn’t mind going to Colorado either.

Andrew, it is always great catching up with you. Wishing you success with your offseason workouts and you and the team a great run this season on the hardwood.

Thank you, sir.
