The recruiting star power for Class of 2022 Arkansas offensive lineman Andrew Chamblee took off like a rocket at the beginning of the 2019 season. After playing junior varsity ball as a freshman, the Maumelle High School standout quickly gained collegiate attention with his size (6-7, 285), foot-speed, strength, and raw talent earning his first offer from Virginia Tech in September. Since the offer from the Hokies was dropped, Chamblee has gone on to earn four-star recruiting status with 10 total offers in-hand.

In an RNG catch-up interview, Chamblee covers ground on his sophomore campaign, offseason workouts, and growing recruiting process.

Interview

Andrew, when we last spoke it was early into your sophomore season. Covering the entire 2019 season, how do you feel that it went for you personally?

“It went well – very well; way better than I was expecting. I did not get to play my freshman year, coming out as hot as I did – I am so ready for this season.”

How did you see your game progress as a pass blocker last season?

“It progressed with my footwork, that got better, and I learned how to do the one-two punch. Overall, I got better with the basics.”

What about with your run blocking?

“At least a pancake every other run play. I was staying low and wide, chopping my feet – all that improved. That helped get me to the point to dominate.”

Was there one aspect to your game that was a challenge for you last season? If so, how have you worked over time to make that area of your game a strength?

“I’d say my hip flexibility was not all that. Now I am doing hurdles every day and doing some good stretches have helped me out on that. That was a huge part of my game.”

Since the season ended, what else have you been working on with your game?

“My footwork, definitely my body tone – trying to put some muscle weight on, and hand-eye coordination stuff.”

This offseason, did you get a chance to max out?

“Yes. On squat I got 405, my dead-lift was 565, and my power clean, I think it was 260.”

Over the spring months, what has been your daily routine?

“I have a 300-pound tire, I have to flip 50 times a day; that keeps me busy. I pull a truck every once in a while, and I have a weight machine I use often.”

If the college camp circuit happens, are there any college camps you want to attend?

“I want to go to an Oklahoma one for sure, an Arkansas camp, and a Texas camp – at least.”

Going into recruiting, which schools are showing interest but have not offered yet?

“Northwestern, Alabama, Texas A&M, and Michigan.”

Nice. How many offers are you holding?

“Ten.”

Chamblee’s Offer Sheet: Arkansas, Kansas, Mississippi State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Southern Miss, TCU, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech

Which programs were the last couple to offer?

“Nebraska was the last to offer. They offered two weeks ago.”

Before the extended dead period began, did you take any visits?

“I took a Junior Day to Arkansas on Jan. 2.”

How did the trip to Fayetteville go?

“It was pretty good. I really got to learn about the staff up there and I was able to catch their vibe to see how they do things. It was pretty good.”

Once the campuses open up, do you have any planned visits you may take?

“Definitely. I want to visit Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, and Texas A&M; I want to visit those schools.”

Time for my virus buster. What have you been doing to keep yourself entertained during the quarantine?

“To not go crazy, I have been cleaning my room three times a day, I clean the house three or four times a week and I have been working out, walking, and driving.”

Wow. I beat your family is happy that you are keeping the house clean.

“My mom is happy that I am cleaning, she is tired of doing it.”

Andrew, thanks for your time today and good luck with the upcoming visits.

“Thank you.”
