Tales of Terian Williams’ play on the gridiron have been ongoing for years in Georgia. The Class of 2022 talent has always been athletic and ahead of the curve with his play-making abilities on the field. Earning the “athlete” label early on as a corner and quarterback, Williams got a chance to showcase his four-star talents against 7A Georgia competition in 2019 walking away with MaxPreps Sophomore All-American honors.

The 12-2 season for Parkview High School was aided by the overall play of Williams on defense and special teams. The 5-11, 175-pound, defender started out at corner but also played safety working his way to 64 total stops, 40 solo, with four tackles for a loss, a sack, 11 passes broken up, forced a fumble, and picked off four. On special teams, he helped out the Panthers offense taking 14 punts back 292 yards the other way giving a field position momentum swing for his squad.

When the lights turn on for the 2020 season, Williams will be suiting up for Grayson High School continuing his onslaught against Georgia teams. The move comes with a heavy heart and a family-first mentality wanting to be closer to his sister due to a medical condition. With 11 offers on the table, college programs will easily be able to track Williams’ progression on the field in 2020.

With a bevy of recruiting visits lined up and a pivotal offseason of growth planned, Williams and I sat down for another one-on-one visit.

Interview

Terian, we have not talked since the Panthers made a fantastic run to the 7A semifinals. What was the playoff run like for you in 2019 as a defensive back?

“The playoff run was good for us. We were hitting on all cylinders together and bonding. It was a good feel going through the playoffs.”

You were the second-leading tackler for one of the top teams in the state of Georgia. What were you doing so well leading to the big production?

“My reading and knowing what is going on; that is one of my best abilities. My mind takes me right to the ball.”

What were some of the coverages you guys were running last season?

“In the playoffs we ran a lot of man and then more of a zone. We stuck with the zone. We did that well with our group of guys.”

The show you put on as a punt returner was impressive. How did that part of your game come along throughout the season?

“It was my first time ever doing punt return, that was something I had to learn. I got better and better as the season went on and during the playoffs I was rolling with it.”

Will you have any new roles with Grayson in 2020 on offense or defense?

“Yes. I am playing strong safety and some free safety and the cornerback position. I will be on punt and kick return and I will play some at slot and a little bit at quarterback.”

What all are you working on this offseason to prepare for all that you will be doing?

“I am working on getting stronger, I gotta get stronger to bring my level of competition up. I have to do detailed things and work on the technique as I get older.”

Have you attended any camps or do you have any you may compete at upcoming?

“No camps yet, but I am competing at the Elite 11 this Saturday and I will be attending an Under Armour and Rivals camp.”

Recruiting is always fun to talk about with you. Right now, which schools are showing interest?

“Ohio State, Cincinnati, Syracuse, Illinois, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, and Northwestern.”

How many offers are in the bag?

“11.”

Williams’ Offer Sheet: Akron, Florida, Florida State, Howard, Illinois State, Kentucky, LSU, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, South Carolina, and Tennessee

Have you taken any recent unofficial visits?

“We went to Virginia Tech for a game day visit.”

Tell me how the Virginia Tech trip went.

“It went well. I saw their facilities. It was a cold game, but the coaches were really nice. They were talking about bringing me back up and having me go to a camp. One of the coaches came down for one of our playoff games.”

That’s cool of them. Are you planning any upcoming visits?

“In March, I am going on Junior Day visits to Kentucky, Rutgers, and Northwestern and I will make my way over to LSU and to Ohio State at some point this offseason.”

Terian, always great catching up with you. Thanks for your time today and good luck with the upcoming camps and visits.

“Thank you.”
