One of the tough things about being a skill player at the high school level, there is a small window of time to showcase what one can do in a given offense. For receivers, it is tough to show college coaches the talent in a run-first scheme. For Ketron Jackson, he did his best during the 2018 season with Lancaster High School taking in eight passes for 217 yards with three touchdowns. But a big season promises ahead for the talented 6-1, 183-pound, receiver during his junior campaign. He has made the move from Lancaster to Royse City ready to showcase his four-star rated skills against Texas 5A defenses. Worth sharing, those skills have already brought 14 scholarship offers to the table.

In an RNG exclusive interview, I caught up with one of Texas’ top 2021 receivers going over his new role with the Bulldogs with an update on his recruiting process.

Interview

Ketron, you made the move in the offseason to Royse City. What type of offense are you working in with the Bulldogs and how are they utilizing your skills within the schemes?

“They have a challenging offense. We have a good quarterback – we will pass the ball a lot this season. We have two great running backs and a great receiving corps too. The ball will be spread out more. I think we had 300 total yards in the first half against Centennial; that was almost the same total for the whole game last year.”

Which routes are you running in the offense to get the ball?

“We try to go deep. We use our speed on vertical routes, posts, and stuff like that. I run some 14-yard curls and some routes to get the ball in my hands quick to make a play like on a screen.”

What did you work on this offseason to prepare for your junior season?

“I worked with one of my trainers on being more explosive, being more consistent overall, my footwork, and my route running.”

You got a test against Centennial last week in a 28-7 win. How did the game go for you personally?

“It went well. I gained a lot of confidence. They came to me on third play of the first drive, I got a touchdown. That gave us big momentum throughout the game.”

Where are you seeing the improvements in your game already over a year ago?

“I am seeing the improvements running my routes. I am better at stopping on a dime, catching, and my consistency.”

Watching your game tape, you get after it blocking. Are there any other areas of your game that might get overlooked?

“I am a team player. Even if I am not having a good game, I am blocking and helping my teammates. I don’t care about my stats as long as my team is winning.”

I have to ask about your speed, because you have a lot of it. What is the fastest timed run you’ve put down?

“My fastest 40 is a 4.46. I do run track; the 200, long and triple jump and relays.”

What is your best event in track?

“The long jump. My best jump is 24-7.”

How many offers do you have now?

“I have 14 offers.”

Which schools were the last couple to offer you?

“LSU, (Texas) A&M, and Georgia Tech.”

Jackson’s Offer Sheet: Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, LSU, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech

We are in a dead period so everything has slowed down, but which school that you know of is showing interest?

“TCU.”

Did you visit any schools this offseason?

“I visited Alabama.”

How did the visit go?

“It was very nice. I loved the atmosphere there and the coaches. I was watching their drills. I ran through their route tree, so they could see what I could do. I did not drop a pass in that (camp) workout.”

Are you planning on visiting any other schools this fall?

“I am trying to visit Alabama again; they asked me to come down again. I want to visit LSU.”

Back to football. The Bulldogs have a bye this week and then pick back up with Garland. Going forward, which games are you hyped to play over the rest?

“Whichever team we lost to last season, those games will be big for us. I am focused on every game, but those games we lost, it will be a different mindset. Our first district game will be a big one. I am looking forward to winning this season.”

What goals have you set for your junior season?

“I put my team first. My goal is for us to make the playoffs, we did not go last season. I want to see how far we can go, see how strong we are. My personal goals – I strive to be the best I can be. I just want to be better than I was before.”

Last question. Thoughts on your new team?

“I have a great team. Everyone on my team contributes. I hope all my teammates get a chance to play college football.”

Ketron, I appreciate your time today and wish you and the Bulldogs a fantastic season.

“Thank you.”
