April 5, 2016 turned out to be a Valentine’s Day of sorts for college football coaches across the country. Some coaches will rest easy knowing that their love for a 5-star recruit is a possible long-term relationship while others, much like many across the country on Valentine’s Day, will lay down for bed tonight with a broken heart. Wyatt Davis, one of the biggest recruits in the 2017 recruiting class, announced his Top 13 Tuesday afternoon.

Davis has worked his way into being not only one of the top offensive linemen in the country but one of the top players regardless of position among his peer group. The 6’4”, 315 pound, tackle/guard has been a two-year starter for St. John Bosco tearing up California talent on the way to back-to-back CIF state championship runs. Davis has protected Josh Rosen’s (UCLA Bruins) and Quentin Davis’ (Fresno State) blindside the last two seasons and helped pave open holes for 4-star Class of 2016 running back Sean McGrew (Washington).

Along the way Davis has topped the 20-offer plateau, gaining on 30, from some of the top college programs in the nation. Those wishing to be in contention for his services at the collegiate level includes Alabama, Miami, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Illinois, Colorado, Auburn, Missouri, and LSU. That list was narrowed down on a Twitter post to: Michigan, Notre Dame, Cal, Florida, Oklahoma, Oregon, Washington, Stanford, USC, UCLA, Georgia, Nebraska, and Arizona State.

Those colleges brushed aside may not be detoured continuing to try to woo Davis and those who have not yet offered could get a late but fresh start on recruiting Davis. For now two Big Ten teams (Michigan and Nebraska), two SEC teams (Florida and Georgia), one Big 12 team (Oklahoma), and one independent (Notre Dame) along with seven Pac-12 teams (Cal, Oregon, Washington, Stanford, USC, UCLA, and Arizona State) are in contention.

How that list will narrow down for Davis to five on official visits will be interesting to watch unfold.
