While the stats on Summit High School’s Class of 2017 running back Stephen Carr are not concrete, the fact that he is one of the more dangerous running backs in the nation is as solid as ever. Carr turned in roughly 1,600 yards with 15 touchdowns as a sophomore and followed that up with an even better junior campaign in 2015 going over 2,000 yards from scrimmage with 20-plus touchdowns.

The high production, elusiveness, and game-breaking speed thrusted the Skyhawks to a 12-1 season racing past the competition until the third round of the California High School Playoffs taking a tough 35-30 defeat to eventual state champ San Marino.

Carr (6-0, 200) is a USC commit but has essentially reopened his recruiting process to field more offers and to learn more about other options that might be out there for him. Some of the latest teams to offer include Washington State, Michigan, and Mississippi State with teams like Cal, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, UCLA, Colorado, Arizona, and Washington already putting offers on the table for the 4-star Fontana area product.

In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I caught up with Carr to talk to him about reopening his recruitment process and got an update on his Nike Opening Los Angeles regional performance.

Interview

Stephen, you just attended the Nike Opening regional in Los Angeles. In your opinion, how did you do?

“I did a good job. Really it went great. I got invited to The Opening in Oregon.”

How did you feel when you found out?

“I was more than excited. It’s a blessing.”

Congratulations.

“Thank you.”

What did they weigh you in at and measure your height at when you registered?

“Six-foot, 200 pounds.”

Nice. What did you run your 40-yard dash in?

“4.57.”

Were you pleased with your 40 time?

“Yes sir.”

What other camps do you have coming up?

“We have a 7×7 tournament in Las Vegas this weekend.”

The Philon tournament?

“Yes.”

That tournament will be loaded with talent.

“Yes it will be.”

I sidetracked you, other camps you might attend?

“I’m not sure about other camps right now.”

So there is big recruiting news with you. What has happened?

“I’m committed to USC but I am reopening my recruiting to talk to other coaches and see what other programs are like. I’m just keeping my options open.”

Are any of the schools that have offered you coming at you hard now?

“Pretty much all the schools that have offered have been coming at me tough.”

Do you have any unofficial visits lined up for the offseason?

“I don’t yet. I have to talk to my family and see how that is going to go.”

Stephen, again, congratulations on receiving an invite to Oregon for the Opening and good luck with your reopening of your recruitment.

“Thank you.”
