Throughout southern California, thanks to 7v7 tournaments, Elisha Lloyd is a known name despite his underclassman status. The Cathedral Catholic rising star literally separated himself from the Class of 2021 pack with his video timed 4.37 40-yard dash in a workout with 7v7 powerhouse Premium. That speed and athleticism has been put on display with the Dons throughout a 10-1 season this year, primarily on defense at corner, seeing him come up with 13 tackles, a pick, three passes broken up, and a forced fumble in stats posted through eight games.

As the Dons head into their second round CIF playoff game against No. 14 California ranked Torrey Pines, I sat down with the 5-10, 175-pound, San Diego area talent to catch up on his sophomore season with a quick preview to the big showdown on Friday.

Interview

Elisha, you are the speedy athlete capable of doing so many things on the field, where all did you line up during the 2018 regular season?

“For most of the season I was at corner, but I came in with some packages on offense and I played on special teams.”

How has your game improved this season as a defender?

“Oh man. I think my game has improved since the Serra-Gardena game. Going up against their top receivers, that made it easier going against the San Diego receivers. I have been able to take charge on defense; my game has improved a lot overall.”

What have been some of the adjustments or challenges you have had to overcome this year as your abilities and knowledge of the game push forward?

“Ever since we lost our first game, the team felt we should have beat them, we have a different feel and have grown as a team. I have become more physical and more of a leader since then thanks to some of the guys on the team encouraging me.”

Which game has been your best?

“I think my personal best was the Madison game. I did not give up a pass, had my first interception, and I had a lot of pass breakups.”

The Dons took care of business in your opening round playoff game downing Carlsbad 35-0, what does the team need to do to keep that dominating force going throughout the playoffs?

“We need to stay focused on the little things. All of that starts in practice. Having a good week of practice helps on Friday. The leaders have to keep stepping up. I am confident in our team going into the playoffs on our way to the CIF Championship Game.”

On Saturday, you guys take on No. 14 Torrey Pines (10-0), what kind of game are you expecting from the Falcons?

“I expect a physical game. They run a similar offense to us. They are physical and smart, I expect a clean football game. I think we have what it takes to beat them.”

With recruiting, which schools are showing interest in you but have not offered yet?

“Arizona State, USC, and Penn State.”

Do you have any planned visits upcoming?

“Yes. With Premium, my 7v7 team, we are supposed to go to five colleges next year, but I am not sure to which schools.”

That will be fun. Also for fun, Did you watch any college football on Saturday, if so, which games did you watch and what stood out to you?

“I wasn’t able to watch any games, I had a lot of homework and slept in to rest up for this week.”

Good choice. How about this one. We are three weeks away from wrapping up the college football regular season, which four teams do you think will make the playoff?

“Oh man. I think the teams that will make it are Notre Dame, Alabama, Clemson, and Oklahoma.”

Elisha, as always, great catching up with you and good luck on Friday.

“Thank you.”
