The recruiting trail leading to Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler (TX) is heating up. Chance Amie is one of the fastest rising quarterback prospects in the 2018 class drawing national attention to his dual-threat abilities. Offers have already come in and interest is on the rise for the 6-4, 200 pound, athlete.

Amie had a nice sophomore season passing for 910 yards with five scores but stretched his playmaking abilities in 2016 connecting for 1,556 yards with 10 scores while rushing for 1,256 yards lighting up the scoreboard 17 more times in just 10 games. Offers have been extended from Iowa State and Bowling Green with interest coming around from Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, UTSA, Penn State, Houston, Louisiana Tech, Arkansas State, North Texas, Cal, and Texas. Another Power Five Conference program liking what they are seeing is Baylor.

On Saturday, Amie took an unofficial visit to Waco getting a great opportunity to meet the staff while learning more about Baylor’s program. In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I sat down with Amie covering his trip.

Interview

Chance, when did you visit Baylor?

“On Saturday.”

Who went with you?

“My parents and one of my teammates.”

The big question, how did it go?

“It was good. I talked to just about all of the coaches. They seemed like they liked me a lot.”

Which coaches did you meet with?

“I met with Head Coach Matt Rhule, their quarterbacks coach, Coach Glenn Thomas, and their offensive line coach, Coach (George) DeLeone. I also met with their recruiting coordinator, Coach (Mike) Siravo.”

What did the coaches talk about with you?

“They talked about their offense, they like me a lot. Coach DeLeone likes me a lot. He said I will make their o-line look good if I play there.”

Did you sit in on any meetings?

“Yes, sir. We sat in on meetings right after lunch. We went over some plays. They showed us some things on how they work with their QBs.”

Did you see yourself fitting in with the team’s offense after watching film and talking with the coaches?

“Yes, sir. Coach Thomas called me before my visit telling me all of the things they like about me. My new head coach, is my QB coach too. He has brought in a new offense. They like that I have adapted to a new offense.”

Did you tour any areas of the campus or facilities outside of the football complex?

“We really just toured the whole campus and they talked about the history of Baylor. Then they focused on football stuff at the end.”

What was your overall impression of the campus and facilities?

“It was a really nice campus. It was really good visit.”

Did the coaches talk about where you are at on their board?

“Coach Rhule wants to talk to me more and get to know me a little better. They are waiting a little bit longer before going forward with an offer.”

Did you make any plans then to visit Baylor again coming up?

“No, sir. The coaches did say they would like for me to come back and visit again.”

Which school do you visit next?

“I visit Texas next week.”

Are you getting excited about visiting Texas?

“Yes, sir. That should be really fun. Austin is a cool place to go to.”
